04.01.21 - New Years

 

Today's task is looking at New Years resolution and what New Years Eve looked like around the world.

Below are attached the resources to help you with the task as well as a video link explaining the task.

 

New Years resolution: answer the questions and create your own New Years resolution (it can be more than one thing).

New Years around the world: can you choose a country (maybe one from the Powerpoint slide) 

to research facts about what they do on New Years Eve or New Years Day e.g. what food do they eat or do they have any special traditions etc.

04.01.21 - Maths: multiplication

WALT use an array

 

Today's task is using arrays to solve multiplication problems.

An array can be used to show us multiplication facts and help solve multiplication problems.

You can go on IXL - multiplication to practice using arrays.

05.01.21 Science Investigation

Will your teeth change if you drink too much fizzy pop?

 

For this task you be asked to investigate the effect of fizzy drinks has on your teeth.

You will need to make a list of equipment, write a set of instructions and make a prediction.

You can write out your investigation on paper or on the computer and send it to me when you are done.

Edit - Why don't you keep the eggs in the fizzy drink in all week! See if the egg changes a little, a lot or doesn't change.

Challenge - why not try experimenting with different drinks and see what effect that has.

This task will involve you looking at a number line to multiply.

There is a video below with instructions on how to do this as well as the powerpoint with 

questions and number line included.

 

There is also a link to an interactive number line that can be very useful as well.

It can be somewhat tricky to begin with so there is a little tutorial on how to use it.

Today you will be looking at the new topic 'Only We Can Save the World’.

 Attached is a learning journal which you will be asked to fill in throughout the video. 

 

Watch the video and fill in the learning journal.

What do you wonder about the topic?

What have your learnt about the topic?

 

Challenge: do your own research looking at the questions posed on the last slide of the video.

06.01.21 Maths - Multiplication problems

 

Warm up - Big Maths Beat That

Can you choose a challenge and answer the questions in 3 minutes (time yourself or get an adult/sibling to time you)

Your aim is to beat your score the next time you try it!

 

Maths task: solve multiplication worded problems.

 

Using the methods that you have learnt - Arrays and Number Lines, can you solve these problems.

Choose your challenge and read the questions carefully or get an adult/sibling to help you. 

Remember to look at whats important first  - numbers and what to do with them.

Reminder about your daily activities - spellings, handwriting, maths can be found on the previous page

Today we will be reviewing databases, something that we breifly looked at before Christmas.

 

Task 1: Create a set of Top Trump cards - minimum of 6 but you can create as many as you want (you can look at the example attached below as inspiration or you can make up your own. Also attached are templates).

Task 2: Input your top trump card information on a database using HWB.

 

Once you have finished (this is really important!!) can you PLAY top trumps.

Maths task: Learn your times tables

At the end of Year 2 children are expected to know their x2,x5x10 times tables - can you complete these on IXL if you haven's done so already.

In Year 3/4 you are expected to know your x3, x4 times tables. (If yo know these off by heart why don't you practice your x6)

 

Can you practice these by listening and joining in to the videos attached below.

Can you look at the picture below: what do you see? what do you wonder? what do you think is happening?


Explore the hidden depths of this picture.

 

Challenge:

Can you create your own picture?

What are you going to hide? What hidden meanings will the person find when looking at your picture? What do you want them to think when they see your picture?

 

Don't forget to go to the daily activities tab and complete your daily:

Spellings - complete your spellings using one of the spelling activities (since its Friday why not play hangman?)

Handwriting - write out the words using pre-cursive or cursive (joined up) handwriting

Reading - log into your Active Reading Primary account and read a book (if you have completed all the books let me know and I can bump you up a level)

It is more important then ever to get exercising and making sure you keep your body moving!

Not only is it good for your body but it is even better for your wellbeing (making you feel happy).
