Welcome!
Hello, my name is Mrs Dana Edwards and I am the teacher at Deri View nursery. Mrs Beverly Stockley, Mrs Sally Forsyth and Mrs Joanna Hudson are also based in the nursery. I hope you find the following information useful but please do not hesitate to contact me directly at Deri View primary school, should you require any further information.
Basic Information
We currently run an AM and a PM session in our nursery. The Am session runs from 9.00am until 11.30am and is our pre-school session. The PM session runs from 12.30pm until 3.00pm and is our rising three session. All children will be offered a snack of fruit and milk/water each day during the session at a cost of £1.00 per week. On Thursdays (Forest School days) the snack will usually be hot chocolate/milk/water/squash and a biscuit. Uniform is not compulsory in nursery but is available from the school office if required. It is important that children are in practical, comfortable clothes that are easy for them to get on/off as independently as possible. Wellingtons and coats are essential as children play outside in all weather conditions.
Curriculum
At our nursery, we offer a play based curriculum and aim to ensure the sessions are as enjoyable, stimulating and engaging as possible. We are beginning the educational journey for our children and plan focused activities around the New curriculum areas of learning experience alongside developmental stages of the foundation phase profile. We also include basic welsh phrases and songs into our daily routine and ICT activities where appropriate. In nursery we usually follow a theme for one/two weeks and include activities in relation with the whole school termly theme where it is beneficial. Our theme is usually based around real life events/nature/seasons/family etc or around a story or nursery rhyme that is meaningful or enjoyable for the children. Focused activities that develop language, literacy and communication or mathematics, Science skills etc are then planned around that theme. Alongside this, we also have continuous provision and enhanced provision (play activities that are child led or added to by adults) both indoors and outdoors that will further develop children's skills and enhance their learning.
Outdoor education and play is very important in developing children's physical and social skills and also in ensuring that they are supported to become healthy, confident individuals. Currently our children attend Forest School on a Thursday. Waterproofs will be provided on this day but children must bring wellingtons and a warm coat also as they can get very cold and muddy on this day.
Class Dojo
Class dojo is the main method of communication between nursery and parents and is also used to share photos and videos of the children having fun and learning during the sessions. If you are a parent who is not yet on the system please contact nursery to ensure you have access to all of the information.
